Nuevo Dia Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy three more pigs and six dozen chickens for her business.

Nuevo Dia Group's story

San Martín Jilotepeque is a town in the Department or State of Chimaltenango, Guatemala, where the population is Maya Kaqchikel. One of the trust banks is called “Nuevo Dia,” or “New Day,” and it is located in San Martin. The group was started by nine entrepreneurial women who work daily to give their families a better future. They are beginning their very first loan cycle with Kiva and are very excited about the possibilities for expanding their small businesses.

Irma is a member of the group who is married with four children who range in age from 1-8 years. She is married and the couple is proud that their oldest son is in school. Irma was able to attend school through the 8th grade and understands the value of a good education. She wants to see each of her children complete their formal education so that each will have a firm foundation for a more successful and prosperous future.

Irma raises and sells chickens and pigs. She is requesting a loan to buy three more pigs and six dozen chickens. When she is not taking care of the children and the animals, she weaves and sells traditional blouses, tablecloths and napkins with the traditional designs of the area.

Thank you, Kiva lenders, for learning about Irma and the ladies in the “Nuevo Dia” Trust Bank. They truly are stepping into new days with their loans and newly acquired information that will not only benefit them but also their families and their community!
