Jane's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support
A loan helped To buy a greenhouse.
Jane, pictured above at home, is a smallholder farmer residing in Kerugoya, an agricultural town in the central region of Kenya. She is possibly the most successful client of Juhudi Kilimo, a microfinance institution that deals only with smallholder farmers in rural parts of Kenya. A few years ago, Jane practiced traditional farming with little knowledge and no financing at all. She was doing only half an acre of maize crop per season. The returns were so meager that she could barely fend for survival. She kept doing maize farming for years without turning a profit until 2013, when she switched to dairy, vegetable and tomato farming. To capitalise more on returns from the booming tomato and vegetables farming, Jane is seeking a loan of KES 100,000 to build another greenhouse. Unlike her neighbors and competitors, Jane uses modern farming techniques to ensure high quality produce. By doing this, she has created a name for herself and a demand for her produce. Your lending will contribute greatly to the actualisation of Jane’s goal, which is to expand the greenhouses and give her children a good education.
