Ama's story

Ama A. is a 50-year-old woman who is still married and the mother of three children: two boys and a girl. They are pursuing education in primary school. Ama’s husband is a retired educator. She lives with the family in Oda in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Most of the inhabitants of Oda are into farming activities.

Ama trades in textiles fabrics and second-hand clothes. She buys textile fabrics and all kinds of second-hand clothes, most especially, skirts, blouses and ladies slippers, from the city of Accra, and sells in the market square in her community. She says she sells in a small shed in the market area. She has been in business for eight years and wants a loan to increase her working capital to be able to procure bales of textiles and ladies slippers. She believes the loan assistance would enable her to upgrade her inventory and eventually, make very good profits.
