Bulbuli's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase more grocery items for her grocery store.

Bulbuli's story

Bulbuli is a 30-year-old widow lady living with her three sons. They live in a small village in Khagrabari, Cooch Behar district, West Bengal. Unfortunately, she lost her husband a few years back. So the whole responsibility for her family is now on her shoulders. Her three sons are studying in different grades in school.

Bulbuli runs a grocery shop where she sells essential commodities of everyday needs like rice, oil, salt, sugar, flour, biscuits, eggs etc. Bulbuli runs this shop after managing her household works.

Bulbuli hope to save enough money to access better living conditions. To that end, she works very hard and saves diligently from her earnings by carefully managing their expenses.

To generate more income to cover all the costs of a four-member family smoothly and the educational costs of her three sons, Bulbuli wants to expand her business by adding more items in her inventory to sell. To stock and store this inventory, she needs financial help.

She requests a loan from BJS (Kiva’s partner) to invest in these purchases. With the expansion, her income has been projected to increase substantially. She wants to use the additional income to construct a concrete house for her family’s well being in the future. She will also have the option of reinvesting these savings in her business for further growth, and the improved income and savings can help achieve her simple goals.

She thanks her lenders because the loan will take a hardworking woman and her family a step closer to achieving their basic needs.
