El Futuro: Group 3's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy cleaning products to resell in her community.

El Futuro: Group 3's story

Martha lives in a small, isolated community in the Dominican Republic known as a batey. A batey is composed of typically Haitian workers and their families who have immigrated to the DR in order to work in the sugarcane fields. Despite the difficult living situation and general lack of access to the outside world, Martha and her other group members have started small businesses with Esperanza loans in order to augment their household income and help provide for their families.

Martha herself has been taking entrepreneurial loans since 2010. Now, 12 loans later, she is still investing in growing her business. She sells both cleaning products and meat to her neighbors, varying on the current needs of the community. Taking out loans allows her to buy in greater quantities, both reducing the price that she pays and giving her a great inventory that she can sell.

Thank you for your consideration of Martha and her group of El Futuro (The Future)!
