Flores De Mayo Yepocapa Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped increase her inventory of sugar, coffee, eggs, pasta and other customer needed products for her convenience store.

Flores De Mayo Yepocapa Group's story

Yepocapa, located in the Department or State of Chimaltenango in Guatemala, has an interesting history that precedes the arrival of the Spanish in the mid-1500s. It has been at the base of the very active Fuego (Fire) volcano which means the population is always ready for the lava to begin to flow as it did this past February 2016. The native Maya in Yepocapa are strong resilient people, especially the women! Seven of these strong women have formed the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Flores de Mayo Yepocapa”. The women have a variety of businesses including, convenience stores, vegetable sales, and catalogues where they sell perfume and cosmetics. Twenty-five year old Mayra is a member of “Flores de Mayo Yepocapa” and is very happy to be able to request her first loan from KIVA investors. She is a mother of two children ages 10 months and 4 years. Mayra was able to go to school through the 11th grade but wants her children to be able to graduate and go the university because she knows that they will have more opportunities and a better quality of life. She has a small convenience store and she wants to increase her inventory of sugar, coffee, eggs, pasta and other customer needed products with a loan from KIVA investors. Mayra is keen to be able to satisfy her customers’ needs. Mayra and the other members of “Flores de Mayo Yepocapa” are fortunate to be a part of Friendship Bridge with its partnership with KIVA investors. They are able to enhance their businesses’ success with the loans and with the non-formal education that is provided monthly when a Friendship Bridge Facilitator provides an important educational topic that can be used on a daily basis. Many of the topics include business skills, or learning better health practices, or learning how to overcome domestic violence. As the months go by, they become stronger and more empowered to fight for their children’s brighter futures! KIVA investors play an important role in providing the much need loans that enhance their businesses and generate profits for future necessities. Thank you for investing in Mayra and her friends in “Flores de Mayo Yepocapa”!!!
