A loan helped to buy a dairy cow.

Joy's story

Joy is a smallholder farmer from Nkubu, Kenya. She is the mother of children. Like many farmers in the region, she keeps a dairy cow.

Joy has sustained herself through dairy farming for six years now. She enjoys the farming lifestyle. She has a connection with farm animals that goes deep, to the extent that she names each of them. She has aspirations of expanding her dairy farm, but due to financial constraints, she has been unable to do so until now.

Joy is kindly requesting 84,600 KES from Kiva lenders to purchase a high-yielding dairy cow. This cow will boost milk production on the farm. As a result, she will have greater volume for both consumption and sales. With the money from the additional sales, she will be able to service her loan on time. With increased income from the loan, Joy plans to spend money to settle the high costs of production in farming. Many farmers compromise quality because of the high cost of inputs. However, with increased income, Joy will not take such measures. In the long run, her family will realize an improved standard of living.

Joy wants to continue fighting to accomplish her dream of having her own house.
