Sandra's story

I am a native of Shelbyville, Kentucky and a mother of three. I am a proud grandmother of three. I have a passion for women who are pregnant with substance abuse disorder and incarcerated women needing a second chance in life. At the age of 6 I was hit in the eye with a BB gun and as a result I had two different color eyes. I was made fun of all my life. My self-esteem became low and I turned to drugs and alcohol. I had a daughter out of wedlock just wanting somebody to love, not understanding that I didn't know how to love myself. Later I had two sons out of wedlock as well. Still doing drugs and drinking, I lost our home and moved in with my grandmother. During this time I just wanted my life back because my children deserved better. I prayed and ask God to please help me turn my life around. When I got a job at the hospital my life turned around and I have never looked back. I am 25 years drug free and now I want to reach back and help others. I hold three degrees (an associates in early childhood education, a bachelors in business administration healthcare management, and a masters in business management) and I'm an ordained minister and Sunday School leader. I want women to know that there is light at the end of the tunnel and they shouldn't settle for less.
