Lewis's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped purchase cleaning equipment and hire employees for BiggDog Management Service as we work to overcome the stigma of incarceration.

Lewis's story

I am a single father of six with three still in the nest. In the 1980's I made an error in judgement and was incarcerated for auto theft for six years. It stopped my life in its tracks, prematurely ending my technical education and putting me into a system that offered little chance for growth or change. When I returned to my home, my community was devastated by the crack epidemic of the early 1990's. I found myself taking care of six young children with little support as my wife struggled with her own addiction. I had to figure out how to reintegrate, so I did whatever I could, and continue to do, to make an honest dollar. For 20 plus years, I have been washing cars, cutting grass, painting houses, cleaning streets & commercial buildings as a maintenance man for hire. Recently I have been able to get support from Work Hard Pittsburgh. Work Hard Pittsburgh helps people like me start their business. They have encouraged me to formalize what I do so that I can find more and better customers. They are also helping me complete this application and find contracts around the City of Pittsburgh. Since 1960, I've been life long community member of the City of Pittsburgh neighborhood of Beltzhoover. I've watched my neighborhood go from a diverse place with all sorts of different people and businesses to an empty neighborhood struggling to exist and find opportunity to reestablish themselves. I goal is to create a successful cleaning business that can not only provide for my family, but also give opportunity to other in my neighborhood.
