A loan helped renovate my dance studio and develop my website.
I was born in Haiti in 1972 and came to the United States with my parents looking for a better life. I always wanted to dance, but in Haiti dance wasn't for boys. I remember picking up a guitar to play and getting a beating from my parents instead. They didn’t want me to become an artist, they wanted me to be a doctor. When I arrived to the US, I started studying Dance in high school (Prospect Heights). My teacher, Ms. Page, taught me that I could be anything I wanted to be, so I went to college and graduated with a masters in education and a BFA in dance. Dance and music give me a platform to express my feelings. Coming from a country where people are being oppressed by Kidnappers and Tonton Makout, the arts open doors for the audience to see the positive side of the country. Though we are poor, we have hope - we can still sing and dance. My mission is to promote and produce quality multicultural programs to educate children and adults about the arts and Haitian Culture. When most people hear about Haiti, they only see the negatives, but I've been able to expose my students to the discipline of dance and the great culture of Haiti.
