but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

William Longidi's story

I grew up in Lochi, in Turkana region. Life was a very big struggle because there was never enough food to eat. All I remember eating is fruits we found on trees and drinking camel milk. I lived far away from any city, deep in rural Turkana. When I came of age I had to leave the area, because that was my fathers land. I traveled south to the Rift Valley, herding cows for farm owners and looking for work. Uhuru Shamba built a large pig house on their land in 2011 and the contractor they used, hired me as a guard to sleep on the farm at night and guard the building materials. I have been fortunate to stay at the farm and am now a permanent employee and I co-manage the pig project at Uhuru Shamba. Life is better than it was before. I want to live in modern Kenya and leave my Turkana roots behind, because that kind of lifestyle is not sustainable or enjoyable. Now, my family has enough to eat and I hope through this loan I can send my young children to school.
