Alejandra's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped purchase a convection oven, a slicer, and a commercial juicer in order to expand my café.

Alejandra's story

My name is Alejandra and I came to the United States 20 years ago from Mexico City, where I grew up. My family was very poor. My mother was single and raised me, my two sisters and my brother by herself. My father died when I was two years old and my mother worked hard to support the family. To help, I started working when I was eight, doing dishes and chores for other mothers in my neighborhood. When I finished high school, I didn’t have money to continue my studies in college so I came to seek my fortune in the United States in 1995. After working as a waitress in several taquerias, I decided it was time to open my own business. To prepare, I studied Culinary Arts for two years at the City College of San Francisco before opening the business. I also received assistance from the Women’s Initiative and Mission Economic Development Alliance.
