Theo's story

I grew up on a small farm raising livestock. I worked my way through college in conventional agricultural and food industry jobs operating equipment for local farmers, seed cleaning plants, and frozen food companies. I received a bachelor's degree in Engineering Physics from Oregon State University. After college, I built a small publishing company, technical writing company, and translation/software localization company, which is now part of translations.com. Two of my sons and my wife, Kira, had health issues, and my search for cures has helped me discern more accurate dietary, healing, and agricultural information than that from mainstream government/industry-sponsored sources. Helios Farms is my active response to misinformation campaigns about food, diet, and health. We are building a prosperous Helios Farms to help: (1) rebuild a secure, pure, local, and sustainable food supply (2) restore family farms (3) optimize the natural productivity of local agricultural lands through intensive livestock farming (4) engage a large community of farm share owners in farm experiences and in long-term positive change My wife is Kira Wadman. She is an entrepreneur who has built several enterprises, including a horse training and boarding ranch and a commercial art business. She raised livestock organically for her own food most of her life. Severely intolerant of commercial dairy products from birth, Kira learned several years ago that raw grass-fed cow's milk caused her no digestive problems and, in fact, made her feel much better and improved her overall health. We purchased a family cow, which soon grew to three cows and a passion for sharing the milk. Kira graces our business and life with her research abilities, butchery and culinary skills, and zeal for chemical-free, ethical animal husbandry and a "food-as-thy-medicine" approach to long-term health.
