Rob's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped purchase equipment that my business needs to provide Passive House building energy rating services, which will distinguish my company as the first Pittsburgh-based Passive House rating company.

Rob's story

I grew up in Madison, Wisconsin in the 1970s and 1980s. Some of the biggest national stories of the 1970s were the Arab Oil Embargo and the two energy crises that took place in that decade. My father’s response to the second energy crisis was to design a passive solar home and have it built for our family. That home, with its large south-facing windows, good insulation, and efficient design, has given me memories of cold Wisconsin winter days with no heating appliances turned on, when I could wear summer clothes inside our house, and sometimes would even open my window to cool off a bit. I have had first-hand knowledge of building energy efficiency since I was 10 years old. After discovering that I was interested in a career in architecture, I tried to learn as much as I could about green and energy-efficient design. After moving to Pittsburgh for my first job, I got involved in some great groups of like-minded people. Through my activities with them, I became a board member of the West Penn Power Sustainable Energy Fund, where I helped to craft statewide building energy efficiency programs. I decided to become a service provider for some of those programs, and learned how to do building energy audits, becoming one of only a handful of architects who also provides hands-on, technical building energy efficiency analysis. Today, my company Building Performance Architecture provides a wide variety of energy efficiency related services for homeowners, apartment building owners, and commercial building owners. My dreams for the future are to help achieve massive reductions in building energy use in the coming years, and make a significant contribution to slowing the threat of global warming, to help our planet continue to be a good place to live for generations to come.
