A loan helped expand my business and save costs.
I was born and raised in Denver, CO, and from a young age, I was always interested in designing and creating beautiful things. There are many women interested in design, especially fashion and interior design, but I wanted to create with my hands and do something more innovative instead. After working for many years in the construction industry, I found my niche in interior glass design. I started in the construction industry with an entry-level position in customer service. I quickly moved up and started doing actual construction work instead. As I worked in the industry, however, I realized that I didn’t want to build homes, but instead make them beautiful. I loved going into a room and thinking about what kind of custom glass installation I could create to make that room look elegant and unique. After fifteen years of working in the construction industry, I decided to start my own business and focus solely on interior glass design. I had only $1000 for my business when I started and after renting a space for a showroom, I used nearly all of my start-up costs. I immediately starting networking and had much of the supplies donated that was needed to build up my showroom. Since I had worked in the industry for so long, I did have many of the tools I needed. I started with no business plan – only a passion for my work and the drive to succeed. Having my own business allows me to support my family and create my own schedule, while doing something I love and am good at it. In order to create a concrete plan for my business and expand my knowledge, I plan to take the Business Success entrepreneurial training course at Mi Casa Resource Center. I want to continue expanding my company and become an increasingly strong competitor in the field.
