A loan helped to purchase ladies' underwear from the border.

Cristina's story

Cristina is 53 years old. She is married, and has a 19-year-old son and a 15-year-old daughter. Her business is selling ladies' underwear.

She is a model to live by. She is affectionate, she protects; and in her hands, she holds the simplicity of the Divine soul. Enterprising, independent, alone or with others, she heals the wounds of anyone who asks. She carries out her business in the zone, "villa Copacabana", found on the side of a mountain, where the streets are sharply sloping.

Cristina has thoughtful eyes, an intense gaze, and velvety hands. She is unique and gifted. Her maternal tongue, Aymara, is like an unforgettable memory, and she only shares it with family members. She speaks Spanish for daily life. She lives with her husband, who works as a builder, and with her children, who study and work. They live in a rented apartment built of adobe. It has potable water, electricity, and a sewer system. She regularly attends the gatherings of the Christian church, and on Sundays she and her family enjoy all the activities performed there.

Her business is selling ladies' underwear, an activity that she started by working with her mother, who is very old and no longer works. Now she runs the business, which consists of travelling to the border to purchase ladies' underwear at wholesale. She sells at the "Early Risers" market, which takes place from 6:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m., before formal business begins, and also at night, in the "night owls" market that starts at 7:00 p.m. She says, "Without my mother's help the work is more difficult". Her business is successful because she sells wholesale and retail. Her business's advantage is that she sells in two markets daily; the disadvantage is the lack of merchandise to sell. Her dream is to make it possible for her children to study a profession. She wants to purchase wholesale ladies' underwear.

This is the first loan cycle with the institution in the 38 years that she has been engaged in this occupation. These are the reasons that Cristina is requesting a loan to purchase ladies' underwear from the border to sell in the market at retail and wholesale.
