Khin Lay's Group's story

Khin Lay is 38 years old and lives in Htaw Auk village. There are 3 family members in her household and she is single. She and her brother are farmers and they have worked in this job for the last 15 years. They enjoy this job because it’s a traditional job in Myanmar society and it’s a suitable job for the rural area where they live. They own 15 acres of farm land for paddy cultivation. She submitted a loan application form to the Sont Oo Tehtwin program to use the loan in her business. With her first loan she will use the money to repair the tractor, fuel for the tractor and to buy 15 bags of fertilizer for the rice paddy. The remainder of the loan will be used for farm land preparation costs. Khin Lay says the loan from the program is very convenient for her and the other group members because the interest rate is low and it allows a flexible repayment. She faces some difficulties in her job due to climate change which is impacting weather patterns in the area.
