Aung Thar-2 Village Group's story

Aung Thar-2 Village group is located in one of the dry zone in Myanmar named Pakokku Township and is comprised of 183 households. People in this village earn for their living by farming, breeding livestock and most young people are migrating to other cities looking for job opportunities. Currently, this village is having difficulties with drought. Mostly, farmers have to rely on rain water for their animals and daily usages. Last year, due to the weather inconsistency, villagers' yields of popular crops were lower than expected.

There are 17 loan clients who are overseen by 5 VLG (Village Learning Group) named Thein, Khin, Sann, Thinn and Hla. The middle one in the picture above is Thein (the featured borrower). Thein is 57 years old, married and has 8 children. Thein has been farming over 30 years where especially he grows corns, groundnuts. He is also known as a very experienced farmer in the village.

With this new loan, Thein is going to buy seeds to be able to yield more crops at harvest time. Thein's biggest aims are to be a larger producer and give his family more stability by having an income from growing crops.
