Kan Yat Gyi-2 Village Group's story
Kan Yat Gyi is one of the villages from Pakkoku Township in which 5 VLG (Village Learning Group) are supervising 63 loan clients out of 170 households. Pictured above are 5 VLG named: Aye, Khin, Myint, Nge and San. Aye (the middle one in the picture), the featured borrower, is 30 years old, married and blessed with two children. The eldest son has migrated to the city for work purposes. Like her son, many young people are migrating to other cities because of the lack of job opportunities in the village. As a result, there are not many people who are able to work on the farms, and the cost of labor has increased to $5-$7 per day. Through this new loan supported by Kiva, Aye plans to use it for labor fees and also to purchase seeds. Aye’s goals are to build a new house for her family and she wants to support, as best as she can, her children’s education.
