A loan helped to buy more flour, soap and cooking oil.

Cossy's story

Cossy is 50 years old and lives in the town of Makindye in the Kampala West region of Uganda. She is married and has five children with one of them currently in school. For the past 10 years, Cossy has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which deals in essential commodities. To help expand her business, Cossy has requested a loan of 3,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more flour, soap and cooking oil and will help Cossy to generate greater profits and to improve her standard of living. Cossy hopes that in the future she will be able to have a bigger retail shop. Cossy is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Cossy who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
