A loan helped to build an appropriate hygienic toilet.

Kerit's Group's story

Open defecation and adoption of unsafe and unsanitary practices have remained a major cause of health hazards. It not only results in causing health issues but also causes serious health ailments that compel a person to spend a significant portion of one’s earnings on medical expenses.

Kerit is a charming lady standing to the left hand in the photograph. She is a humble resident from a small village of Rajgangpur, Odisha, India. She lives with her parents-in-law, husband and her 3-year-old daughter.

Kerit is a victim of the sanitation crisis that persists in India. She does not have access to a toilet in her home nor in her immediate locality. Therefore, she has to trek a long distance to relieve herself in isolated places.

Being a sensible lady, she does not find this practice safe and feels the risk of crimes and molestation. She also thinks that this practice in the long run may result in disease and she may end up in spending a major source of her earning in medical expenses.

Therefore, Kerit, along with her group member, is requesting a loan amount of 30,000 INR from Kiva's partner Peoples Forum. She will use her portion of the loan amount to build an appropriate hygienic toilet so that she no more has to follow those unsafe and unhygienic practices that are causing her inconvenience and making her feel vulnerable.

Kerit is eagerly awaiting your kind help so that she can enjoy a healthy and disease-free life and maintain good health.
