Rupali's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase a wide variety of saris to expand her business.

Rupali's story

Rupali is a 30-year-old, married woman and mother of two children (a son and a daughter). She is from a rural village in Falakata, West Bengal, India. Her daughter is studying in school and her son is a toddler. Her husband Tarun attended school up to grade 12.

Rupali's husband is engaged in a small business. But his income is inconsistent. Thus Rupali decided to help her family financially with her earnings. For this purpose, she started her business selling saris. Saris are garments consisting of a length of cotton or silk elaborately draped around the body, traditionally worn by the women of India. For additional income, she sells many kinds of ready-made garments according to the demand of her customers.

Rupali started her business from her house. She is taking the loan from BJS (Kiva’s partner) to buy different varieties of saris and other clothing from the wholesale market and to fulfill the demand of her customers. Her neighbors, relatives and friends are her main customers. Now she is playing an important role by giving financial support to her family. With the growing needs of her family and the increasing educational expenses of her daughter, she started her business five years ago to give financial support to her family. She expects a boost in her earnings with her loan.

She is grateful to BJS and Kiva for this loan.
