Macario's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy four ovens to increase his production of charcoal briquettes.

Macario's story

Macario is a 54-year-old resident of Noh-Bec, a community that manages a communal forest territory. They have 18,000 hectares of FSC-certified forest, where they harvest various tree species, collect latex used to produce natural gum base, and produce sustainable charcoal. He is part of a group of charcoal producers engaged in sustainable forest management activities with Reforestamos Mexico AC, an NGO that works with diverse stakeholders to ensure the forests Mexico needs for its development.

Macario is asking for a loan to increase his production of charcoal briquettes. He owns six ovens where he produces 180 tons of charcoal from dead trees and sawmill residues. With this loan, Macario will buy four new ovens and hire someone to help him with the additional production.

As a result, he will earn more money, improve the living conditions of his family, and by using dead trees to produce charcoal briquettes, Macario will help prevent wildfires and thus contribute to the conservation of this invaluable site.
