Kandri's Group's story

Kandri is a simple and affectionate lady standing on the extreme right hand side of the photograph. A humble resident of a small tribal village of Sonepur, Odisha, India, she is one of the critical victims of the sanitation crisis that persists in India. She does not have access to a toilet neither in her home nor in her immediate vicinity. Therefore, she has to trek a long distance to relieve herself in isolated places. Being a sensible lady, she does not find this practice safe and feels the risk of crimes and molestation. She also thinks that this practice in the long run may land her with a disease and she may end up in spending a major source of her earning in medical expenses.

Therefore, Kandri along with her group members, is requesting a loan amount of 54,000 INR from Kiva's partner People's Forum. She will use her portion of the loan amount to build an appropriate hygienic toilet with a hand pump installed in it so that she no longer has to follow those unsafe, unhygienic and unsanitary practices and can save her precious time, which she spends standing on long queues to get a bucket of water.

Kandri is eagerly awaiting for your kind help so that she can enjoy a healthy and disease-free life.
