Juana's story

This is Juana, aged 52 years old, from the province of Gen. Trias, Cavite, Philippines. She is married to Nolasco, a maintenance man, with two schooling children. The couple work hard to provide for their children. They lead a very simple life in order to give the children a good education as it is their path and hope for a better future.

To augment their income Juana put up a "sari-sari" (Tagalog word meaning variety) store which is a small neighborhood retail shop run by women microentrepreneurs from their homes. Her store has been doing quite well for ten years already. She buys packaged food items, beverages and toiletries from wholesalers and then sells them at retail prices.

To help her expand operations of her store she is requesting a PHP 50000 loan to buy more grocery items such as canned goods, instant noodles, biscuits, bread, eggs, etc. to sell at her store. Her store of ten years means a lot to her family since it helps provide a school allowance for her children. She wishes everyone an abundance of love and a prosperous 2016.

Juana, just like a typical Filipina mother, dreams of seeing her children finish college and become professionals someday. She faithfully meets up with her co-fellowship* members to share stories of her work every week and it is there where she can also draw strength and inspiration from the Word of God she studies.

*All CCT community partners/clients are organized into fellowship groups that meet on a weekly basis. A fellowship group is composed of 15 to 30 community partners. The fellowship groups gather each week to study the Word of God, build social capital and repay microfinance loans.
