Mary's story

Hello, Kiva lenders, meet Mary. She is the first-born in a family of seven. Her parents were small-scale farmers and struggled to get food on the table. She benefited from the Free Primary Education, and her secondary school education was financed through a harambee (fundraising) and support from well-wishers. She worked hard and excellently performed with good grades. She moved to Mathare slums, Nairobi, to hunt for a job to support her family.

She joined Digital Divide Data about 2½ years ago, and she says that her life has been transformed. DDD has a work-study program where brilliant youths from underprivileged families are given professional opportunities, higher education and lasting higher income. Also this program includes a partial scholarship.

Mary is a second-year student at the Kenyatta University taking a Bachelor of Commerce. She is seeking a supplementary education loan that will enable her to continue with her studies in the coming semester as she begins her third year. Your loan will help her complete her studies in 2017 and increase her chances of getting better employment.
