Soumaye's Group's story

This group of 19 members was set up in January 2003. It is made up of women who live in the same village.Their main activities are running small businesses and they enjoy great solidarity with one another.

Soumaye, who is 32 years old and standing on the far left of the photo with her hand raised, is the star borrower of the group. She is divorced and mother to two girls and two boys. She sells vegetables, palm oil, onions and other condiments.

With this new loan she is planning to buy 50 kilos of onions, three 20-liter bottles of palm oil, vegetables and other condiments, which she will resell on a retail basis in her village. With the profits she makes, she is planning to ensure her children's education as well as feed them, and also boost her savings.
