Amanecer Huehue Group's story

The state of Huehuetenango is one of the most extensive regions in Guatemala home to 31 municipalities. It also is known for its natural resources and beauty. Huehuetenango is situated in the North Western region. Eleven women from this region formed the trust bank “Amanecer Huehue.” They have already been through several cycles with Friendship Bridge. Now they are asking for a new credit due to the demand caused by the festivities of Semana Santa (Holy Week). The women need to increase the inventory of their businesses in order to cater to the demand. They are dedicated to the sales of clothing, the catalog sales of perfume and cosmetics, amongst other items. Maria is thirty-three years old and the president of the trust bank. She has two children (ages 5 and 8) the oldest is currently in first grade. She is married and her husband is a bus driver. Maria studied through here secondary education and received a secretary degree in high school. She is dedicated to the growth of her business in order to support her children and ensure that they can graduate and be successful. Maria is dedicated to the sale of products by catalog including shoes, a variety of clothing, and food recipes. With the loan she requested she hopes to buy more product and increase her inventory and meet the demand of the clients. She hopes to increase her sales and attract more clients. Thanks to Kiva and Friendship Bridge the women feel empowered to take the chance to create a better future for their children.
