Wives Group's story

Rugiatu, 32, is married and has one child who is 11 years old. She is the leader of the Wives Solidarity group, which is made up of four members who are all engaged in their own small businesses dealing with different products. For the past 11 years, Rugiatu has sold African clothing to earn an income. She uses the proceeds from her business to help pay the fees for her children’s education and provide a livelihood for her family.

On behalf of her group, Rugiatu has applied for an 8,000,000 SLL loan through Kiva's field partner ARD, which will be divided among the group members. Rugiatu, is shown on the right side of the picture. Rugiatu will use her 2,000,000 SLL share to buy an additional bale of African clothing (cotton) to sell. She hopes that her business will continue to be successful so that she can use her profits to help with some household expenses and prepare for her child's education. Rugiatu and her group members wish to thank the lenders for financing their businesses.
