Four Girls Group's story

Food is not only about flavor but also tradition, sharing, honesty, and identity. Food brings people together and, at its best, is an expression of love. Linda runs a canteen business which is always a memory lane for all the people who gather around her. She unites people from all walks of life- all age groups included. Around break time, Linda is always the most outspoken individual as her place is the meeting point for children to enjoy french fries, burgers and cold drinks. Around lunch time, all professionals gather around and the group includes bankers, vendors, teachers, nurses and grassroots politicians, Later in the day, it is a meeting point for the elderly who no longer enjoy the taste of food but Linda’s style of cooking helps them to reconnect with their past.

Linda is a member of a group of women who named themselves Four Girls. There were originally four members before one of them dropped out, so they are three now. These ladies stay in the same community and for the greater part of their lives they have been really close friends. They sincerely hope that their fourth member will re-join them soon in order to give their group its definite meaning. Linda has three children who are working toward completing high school, and her husband works in South Africa. Linda experienced challenges of cash shortages to cover all of her business expenses.

Linda’s business is strategically located near a school between an industrial area and an area where vendors conduct daily toil around industries. Linda wants a loan to buy mealie meal, rice, meat and other traditional vegetables to cook in her canteen. Linda was happy with the trainings she received at Thrive and she hopes these training sessions will help her to transform her way of running the business and increase her sales.
