Babita's story

Thirty-six-year-old Babita is a housewife from Falakata. She is married to Tapan, who is 40 years old and with whom Babita is raising two children (a son and a daughter) a the small village in Chuyakhola, Alipurduar district, West Bengal. Her children are continuing their schooling.

Both Babita and her husband have been involved in agricultural activity for years. They have good knowledge of potatoes and other vegetable cultivation. They are currently growing potatoes, which is in great demand in the market. They grow good potatoes. That's why they have achieved many good customers. To satisfy their customers' demands and for additional income, they want to grow potatoes in a larger quantity.

So Babita has applied for a loan from BJS (Kiva's partner). She has requested this loan to expand her agriculture activity. Her ambition is to enlarge the business for which she is receiving financial support and to diversify her activity by growing more potatoes.

With the loan that she is receiving, Babita plans to boost their agricultural business, and to do so, she will purchase fertilizers, potato seeds, pesticides and other farm inputs.

She hopes she will develop the business and with the profit, she can improve her family's condition and can give further education to her children in the future. She also wants to save money to purchase more agricultural land.

Babita is thankful and grateful to BJS and Kiva for the funding.
