A loan helped to purchase a cow for her milk-selling business.

Ashoka's story

Ashoka is a 36-year-old lady who lives in Madhumia village in Murshidabad district, West Bengal. She has a primary level education, as she could not continue further education due to the lack of resources of her family. She is a mother of two children. Her daughter is married, and her only son, after completion of class seven education, dropped out due to the financial crisis of the family. Now he works in a small shop. Her husband Sahadeb is a mason by occupation. Ashoka is a very hardworking woman; she has started her own dairy farm with one cow. She has five years of experience in this venture.

Ashoka is running her business successfully and has acquired many customers. She rears cows and sells milk in her locality as well as to the milkman. Now she wants to increase her small-scale enterprise, but she does not have adequate capital to invest in her business.

Thus, Ashoka is requesting a loan from Kiva via BJS to purchase a cow and forage, for more milk to sell. She hopes to save enough to construct a concrete house for them. She hopes for the fulfillment of her golden dream of having a big cattle herd and to run the business on a larger scale and put an end to the poverty.

Ashoka is very much grateful to her lenders.
