Mi Comunidad Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a sewing machine which will enable her to produce a greater amount of clothing.

Mi Comunidad Group's story

The town of San Cristóbal Totonicapán, located in Western Guatemala, has a large population of very hard working Maya K’iché women. Twelve of them have formed the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mi Comunidad”. These industrious women want to develop their small businesses and see them grow and prosper.

Gregoria is one of the industrious Trust Bank members who is 28 years old. She was only able to attend school through the third grade. However, like so many determined Maya women, she developed her own sewing business, making pants, sweatshirts and T-shirts. Right now there is a very competitive market with a high demand for her products. She wants to take this opportunity to increase her inventory. She sees that with an increased inventory, she will be able market her products outside of Totonicapán. Thus, Gregoria is requesting a loan to buy a sewing machine which will enable her to produce a greater amount of clothing. She wants to have a larger income to be able to pay her household expenses, as well as pay for a primary school education for her 3 children.

An education for her children is of the utmost importance to Gregoria because she learned from her lack of education that a good education opens doors to an improved way of living. However, Gregoria is very pleased that in each Trust Bank meeting where she meets with the others of “Mi Comunidad” to transact business on their loans, she also is able to have important lessons that she can use in her daily life.

The funds provided by KIva lenderrs, help the women generate more development possibilities for themselves and their families which means they are able to look forward to brighter and better futures! Thank you!!!
