Colonia Zapata Group's story

In a small community in the state of Mexico, the traditions and festivities of their ancestors are still maintained. The inhabitants are very happy and hardworking people who earn a living through raising different animals as well as growing corn with the main purpose of using it to make tortillas; a basic food for the families of the entire country. The end-of-the-year festivities are well respected, and received with happiness since they do not depart from their religious origin.

Guadalupe is a member of the group formed in the stated community. She stands out through her hardworking attitude and a friendliness that invokes the trust of those who meet her. She has two children whom she strives for every day so that they can finish the schooling that they desire to pursue in the future.

Mrs. Lupita, as her close friends call her, has earned a living raising sheep for more than 14 years. At first, her objective was to pay for the home expenses and the education of her children, but over time she developed a special care for her occupation. She was able to acquire her first sheep thanks to her savings, but what has helped her increase her production has been the support offered by VFMexico. At this time she wants to use the loan to buy four sheep, plus sufficient food.

The raising process last approximately one year, until the sheep reach an ideal weight and size so that the customers can buy them. "My little animals can only have two or three offspring, but that is sufficient to fulfill the demand of my customers," she expressed happily.

Even though competition exists in her community, she trusts in her quality and excellent care, through which it is no accident that she has sustained progress for more than a decade. She will continue working very hard every day since one of her dreams is to increase her production and include new animals in order to generate a greater quantity of earnings.

The other members of the group are Leonarda, Gloria and Aurelia who will invest in sheep while Antonia will invest in clothes. *The photo was taken in the city plaza of the community.
