Ratani's Group's story

Ratani is a differently abled lady. She is standing on the left-hand side in the photograph. She hails from the small village of Odagaon, Odisha, India. Ratani lives with her husband and two sons.

She is a independent minded lady and she does not want to be a burden on her husband. That is why she has decided to engage in certain income-generating activities to become self-reliant and supplement her family's income.

She, along with her fellow group member, has requested a loan amount of 30,000 India rupees (INR). Ratani will use her portion of the loan amount to start her candle-making business. She will purchase wax, thread, and other materials that will enable her to make candles in a better way. She will be supplying candles to the nearby villages that do not have access to reliable sources of electricity.

Ratani aspires to purchase a new candle-making machine that will enable her to produce voluminous amount of candles so that she will be able to serve a larger base of customers. The profit that will be generated from the business will be used to provide quality education for her two sons and build a new house for her family's comfortable living.
