Marcos owns cows, sheep, and a plot of land where he cultivates corn. He decided to invest in a biodigester in order to reduce his expenses linked to the purchase of LP gas, which partly covers the energy needs of his farm and house. In addition to LP gas, he used to buy important amounts of wood to cook, and heat water in the bathroom. Not only was this contributing to deforestation, but also burning wood was filling the house with toxic smoke, which the whole family was inhaling on a daily basis. With his biodigester, Marcos will turn his animals' manure into a precious resource to produce his own biogas, which will supply the house and farm in a renewable and safe energy source to cook and heat water. The animals' manure is also transformed into a nutrient-rich organic fertilizer by the bacteria inside the biodigester, which Marcos will spread on his cornfield to improve the yield in a natural way. By displacing LP gas, wood and chemical fertilizers, Marcos will save money he plans to reinvest in the purchase of additional animals, and the improvement of his farm's infrastructure, to create better living conditions for his animals. This loan represents 45% of the total cost of the biodigester, the remaining part being covered by a government subsidy.
