Jaime is 49 years old and lives in a stable home with his wife and three younger children. They live in their own home, which is one-story, has running water, and is built of basic materials. Their house is located in a community called Santa Rosa, where Jaime was also born. Santa Rosa is located in the Santo Tomas district of Cutervo province, in the Cajamarca region of northern Peru. Most people in this area make their living in agriculture, cattle raising, and trade. Jaime gets along well with his neighbors and has a good reputation, both personally and commercially, in the area. Jaime has been growing coffee for 20 years and now makes his living with a coffee crop planted on 2 hectares [about 5 acres]. He has a lot of experience in coffee growing and grows a variety of coffee called Catimor that is disease-resistant. His current crop is 4 years old and in its 3rd year of production. This loan will be invested in maintaining and taking care of Jaime's coffee crop, which is currently in the flowering stage [the stage before the coffee "cherries" or beans are formed]. This will help him assure a good production for the 2015 season, which will in turn produce greater sales for him and bring in extra income that he can use to improve life for himself and his family.
