Gustavo has seen the serious consequences of drug addiction. Many of his friends and members of his family suffered from this condition. Witnessing the devastation of addiction affected Gustavo so deeply that he decided to volunteer at a halfway house for recovering addicts. Through his volunteer work, Gustavo discovered that a drug testing facility didn’t exist in Kaufman County, Texas. He realized there was an opportunity to meet a need in the marketplace and follow through with his commitment to help recovering addicts and keep them accountable. Currently all drug testing for companies and organizations in and around Kaufman County are sent to Dallas for lab testing – a time consuming and costly process. So Gustavo started Anonymous Professional Testing and was able to fill the missing gap. After learning about Accion Texas Inc., Gustavo applied for a loan for help with startup. Gustavo used his loan from Accion to purchase office supplies, as well as equipment and supplies such as test tubes, syringes and lab coats. Gustavo said he feels a great sense of empathy for his clients because he understands what they are facing, but also understands that with hard work, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
