Roselia is 23 years old and a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Los Pinos.” She is a shining example of an empowered woman with only 6 years of formal education. She has a growing business weaving traditional wrap around skirts or “cortes.” She has 25 foot looms and employs 35 people who help her fill orders of 55 “cortes” weekly! Her employees are then able to support their own families!

Roselia wants the business to expand even more and to be able to save for the education of her 2 children who are 4 and 9 years old. She is requesting a Kiva loan to buy a large quantity of high quality thread, essential for the production of more “cortes.”
There are 9 Maya K’iche ladies in the Trust Bank and all are traditional weavers in the department/state of Quiche. They formed a Trust Bank because they wanted access to the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and healthcare services. They are creating a higher living standard for their families. The women appreciate their monthly educational trainings when they learn about effective business practices, how to more effectively care for their families (health, hygiene, nutrition) and themselves (women’s rights/roles, violence against women, self esteem). These trainings are designed by a Facilitator who uses pictures, diagrams, role playing and games to share the information.
Thank you, Kiva investors, for your kindness in funding these essential loans!
