Carlos is 49 years old, married and has 4 children. His principal activity is growing coffee. He has had a coffee farm of 5 manzanas [7.35 acres] for more than 26 years. Carlos lives with his wife and their children. He is requesting a loan to pay for planting a manzana of coffee; buying fertilizers and chemicals and paying employees, in order to improve his farm's productivity. Lack of financing has been preventing him from performing adequate maintenance.

This loan will enable Carlos' farm to achieve better coffee production and, also, to produce better income to pay for household expenses, and provide a better quality of life for his family, including financing university study for his children and to help build a new house with all the conveniences. He has worked very hard to build up a family patrimony and these activities have required hard work. Among Carlos' dreams is to have one of the best and most technically modernized farms in his zone, and to provide a better education for his children.

Carlos is the leader of the 'Grupo Solidario Las Vegas' [Fertile Plains Solidarity Group], which has 6 members, all dedicated to the same activity, coffee growing. They have confidence in Carlos as the group's coordinator because he is a very responsible and committed person. Mayra [another member] also has a general store. She isn't in the photograph because she couldn't attend the meeting. Delfida also has a general store, with more than 18 years experience. Rene is a coffee grower who sustains his family. Hebert is also a coffee grower and his desire is to advance his family. Anastacio, too, is dedicated to coffee growing and to his family.

Doña Lourdes, age 35, is single and lives with her two children in a neighbourhood of the city of Nacaome. She was selected leader of the Torre Fuerte group because of her dedication and hard work. She has made snacks for nine years. Her dishes include arroz con pollo, tacos, sandwiches, and baleadas [a wheat flour tortilla filled with mashed fried beans]. She sells in a stall in the Nacaome market. She also wants to continue working with her group of friends as part of PRISMA.

Señor Clemente, age 55, lives in a small hamlet in Nacaome Valle with his wife and children. They work together to get ahead. Clemente has always worked in business and livestock.
Clemente has a general store where he sells all sorts of grocery items such as oil, soap, dairy products, sausages, Asistin-brand cleaner, Maseca-brand corn masa flour, rice, beans, and pop. He is requesting a loan of 10,000 Lempiras in order to invest in the purchase of sausages, condiments, beans, rice, sugar, butter, soap, dairy products, detergent, and other products for his business.
With the income from this investment, Clemente's business will be much more productive.
His dream is for his business to be better-stocked, to be able to improve his home, and to help his family to have a better life.
