Yohana Del Carmen, age 35, is a single mother with three minor children under her care. She is from León, which is located in the western part of the country. In her free time she likes to enjoy quality time with her children, and she makes them food that is typical of the region like ‘gallo pinto’ [rice and beans]. Sadly, due to the lack of financial resources, she was not able to enroll in the university. However, she would have really liked to have studied for a nursing career.

Thanks to her spirit and her desire to get ahead, she has a food store in her home. It is a small store that sells food products in small quantities. She sells packets of coffee, packets of shampoo, rice, cooking oil, sugar, milk, bread, beans, juices, and soft drinks. She spends some ten hours a day selling her products.

The objective of the loan is to invest in working capital in order to stock her store with food products. She will do this so that she will be able to get better income in the not so distant future.

Yohana Del Carmen is grateful for the help the Kiva lenders give to people with scarce resources and in poor countries like Nicaragua so that they can have a decent way of earning a living.

Osillas Santiago is an older married gentleman with six children. He lives in Chinandega, an area that produces a lot of rum, sugar and stores, among other businesses. Osillas is a man who has struggled from a very young age because he came from a very humble family. Because he was one of the older children out of his siblings, he had to leave the house and work so that his youngest siblings would be able to go to school. As a result, he only finished primary school where he learned to read and write. Little by little he has improved his life and today he has his own home where he lives with his family. With the loans he obtained he was able to complete a part of his home. However, now he needs to complete the construction of a front porch that is incomplete and open because he lacks the construction materials. This project will also complete a portion of the perimeter of his home. Osillas is seeking this loan to buy construction materials including cement, iron, bricks, zinc, rafters, and tiles, among other items.

 $100 of $575 raised.

Started raising funds on Jun 4, 2013

Rosa Emilia is a married adult with four minor children. She’s from one of the municipalities in Chinandega located in the northwest of the country. Rosa Emilia’s a woman who is noted for being hardworking, enterprising and responsible with her obligations as a mother and a wife. She started working at a very young age with her mother in her fried-food business selling traditional dishes from this country (meat pies, ‘gallo pinto,’ tacos, enchiladas, grilled meat, fried plantain, etc.) Later she became independent and managed to open her own business because she needed to cover her family expenses. To date, the business is 7-years-old. She also buys and sells new clothes.

The objective of this loan is to buy the raw materials like bananas, oil, salt, meat and rice she needs for her food because she offers meals like dinners, tacos, fried plantain, enchiladas, ‘gallo pinto,’ and plantain, among others. One of her dreams is to have a business exclusively dedicated to new clothing sales so she won’t have to continue going from place to place and so her children will have the opportunity of studying a professional career, something she was unable to do. Rosa’s very happy and grateful with the support Kiva lenders offer people of low economic resources.

Started raising funds on Jun 6, 2013

Blanca Yadira is married and has two children (minors). She is from a municipality in Chinandega, located in the western part of the country. She runs a general merchandise business, buying and selling adult and children's clothing, cosmetics, gold articles, footwear, and trinkets. She sells her products for cash or credit, to permanent and temporary clients, both at markets and at home. One of her dreams is for her children to become professionals, an opportunity she never had herself since she had to work from an early age in order to contribute to the income of the household.

This is not the first time Blanca asks for a loan and thanks to previous support she has been able to increase her business, offer a wider range of products, and better serve the needs of her clients. The purpose of this loan is to increase her inventory, as she has several orders from her clients that she needs to deliver. Therefore she is again applying for a loan in order to buy more adult and children’s clothing, cosmetics, and other consumer goods. Blanca is very grateful to the Kiva lenders for offering their support to people with scarce economic resources.

Started raising funds on Jun 8, 2013

45 year old Miguel Geronimo is single and has 2 children in his care. He is originally from León, a place in the west of the country. He can be characterized as responsible, hardworking, and wanting to overcome problems. In his spare time, he enjoys himself playing games like baseball with his kids. Unfortunately, because he didn't have the economic resources, he was not able to study for a degree and he had to work from a very early age.
Thanks to his spirit of excellence and his desire to succeed, he has a business selling merchandise such as men's and women's clothes: trousers, blouses, t-shirts, skirts, shorts, dresses, underwear, towels, nightwear. He works about 9 hours a day and he sells door to door, carrying a 30kg package of clothes. The goal of this loan is to supply his business by buying merchandise so that, in the not too distant future, he can get a better income. Miguel Gerónimo is grateful for the help that the Kiva lenders offer to people who have scare resources and to poor countries such as Nicaragua so they can have dignified work.
