Being a member of the "Uniting Forces" Group has helped Salome with her business of selling local dishes -- 'maize porridge' and 'repeated again chicken" -- in the streets. At the same time, she has also worked at laundering clothes for some 8 years. The loan she requests will be invested in purchasing cups and disposable spoons. Salome's greatest desire is to build her house, including a room to be rented out. In this manner, she will be able to obtain a fixed income. Hilda is 47 years old, married, with 2 grown children. Hilda began making weavings, little by little growing her income. So she decided to start her own business, where today she sells basic need goods. Thanks to her efforts and dedication Hilda has been able to support her children in their education and improve their quality of life. Her greatest wish is to see her children become professionals and to continue growing her business. With the wishes to improve her business she sought a loan in order to buy basic items such as rice, sugar, milk, noodles, and beverages. One of the members is Elida, who is a 27-year-old single mother of three children. For the past year she has had a business selling juice in a small market. She works every day with the aim of getting ahead and being able to pay tuition for her children and cover the household expenses. Her greatest dream is for her children to become professionals; it is for this reason that she works hard. She will invest the loan proceeds in supplies for her juice business, such as fruit, plates, utensils and glasses, which will lead to increased income. Ana, 37, is the president of the group. She has a live-in partner and four dependent children. Ana has a small grocery store that she set up in her home four years ago where she sells basic staples: rice, sugar, and beverages. She also works distributing products from the central highlands such as cheese, milk, quinoa, and maca [a native Andean root vegetable]. This way she helps her husband, a taxi driver, with the expenses and their children's education. She'll invest the loan in buying rice, sugar, and oil. Her greatest wish es to finish the construction of her house and to give a better quality of life to her family. The group is grateful to the Kiva lenders for this loan. He services and fixes the area's motorcycle taxis and his goal is to get ahead. He has loyal clientele and he has generated enough income to cover his household expenses. He is seeking this loan so that he can buy more parts for his motorcycle taxi. In the future he would like to have an additional taxi so that he can rent it out and earn an even higher income for his family.
