Two Weeks Left to Show Your Support; Vote Today at samsclub.com/giving
San Francisco, CA—April 22, 2010—Two weeks ago Kiva.org kicked off its participation in Sam’s Club Giving Made Simple campaign, an online voting initiative where Sam’s Club members and associates will determine how the company will give a $4 million donation to eight organizations, and today Kiva.org announced it is in first place in the Entrepreneurship category. If Kiva.org wins the top grant of $1 million, the organization will increase its impact by ten by generating approximately $10 million more in loans from the internet community, helping approximately 25,000 entrepreneurs in the US and around the world.

“We are so thankful for all of the community votes we’ve received so far in this campaign, which could have a profound impact on Kiva,” said Premal Shah, President of Kiva.org. “We would be extremely grateful to Sam’s Club, and to the Kiva community, for the opportunity to grow our organization in order to empower individuals to lend to more entrepreneurs around the world in an effort to alleviate poverty.”
Sam’s Club members and associates can vote once a day for the duration of the campaign, and may vote for the same or different organization each time. These votes will determine what portion of the $4 million donation the organizations will receive. The organization in each category – education and entrepreneurship – that earns the most votes will receive $1 million for first place; $500,000 for second place; and $250,000 for third and fourth place.
The last day of voting is May 2, 2010 and the winners of the campaign will be announced on May 4. For additional details and regular updates on Giving Made Simple, visit samsclub.com/giving or join Sam’s Club on Facebook or on Twitter at @samsclub.
