I loan because:
"We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand." - Randy Pausch... Bettering the standard of living - especially in DVC's - fundamentally rests on productivity gains via improvements to physical capital, better methodologies and technologies, or investments into human capital such as education. Yet, it's often a catch-22 for those living in poverty: To improve financial well-being one must make these investments, but to establish these investments one must have the financing. While avoiding many of the debilitating complexities of foreign aid, Kiva establishes a market for microfinancing to prosper and provides the resources vital for rising out of dire poverty. These loans create the opportunity for individuals to work hard and fund the investments they truly need for long-term gains - for their family, for their community, and for their country. More often than not, they are good people that simply need an opportunity to thrive... "We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand." It only takes a little from us to greatly change these entrepreneurs' lives. Let's step up and lend, and help them play the best hand of their lives!
