- I loan because:
- It's more than a loan, it's more than a charity donation. It's a contribution that can help improve someone's life by taking a more involved approach. Not only does it help people escape the crushing weight of extreme poverty, but it promotes a cultural exchange, racial unity, respect for and equality of women, and is a fulfilling experience for all involved as partners in the business. Those receiving these loans also have a greater sense of self-worth, confidence, and accomplishment. All anyone ever wants in life is an opportunity--a chance to live, to dream of a future, to be comfortable, and microloans are a huge step towards that goal. I believe we may soon find that this just might be our best answer to slowly eradicating such rampant and extreme world poverty and the negative realities that are so often derived from it. Our optimism will translate to its success. I highly commend Kiva for their sympathetic and uplifting efforts. I look forward to spreading the message and encouraging others to participate in this new world concept. There is no better return on an investment then to know you helped give someone that single chance they so desire in life. FLORENCE KALUUBA, a courageous and determined teacher located in Uganda, has devoted her time, effort, and life towards elevating the role of young girls, improving their self-confidence and self-perception, and empowering them to become positive productive members of their society. She has recently completed a loan through Kiva which she successfully used to improve the quality and capabilities of the school she founded called Mirembe Community College. She has seen over 500 students enroll and complete training within her school which is a testament to the impact her school is having and will continue to have. A grant fund is being considered in honor of her accomplishments at kivafriends.org, in order to help insure the continued success and growth of her school.
