I loan because:
I loan because it’s an opportunity to directly impact people living in extreme poverty throughout the world. There is so much destruction in the world. Kiva gives lenders a chance to build up instead of tearing down. I like to think of the effect that one loan can have beyond the borrower, on the individual’s family and community. Over the time that I’ve been investing through Kiva, I have decided to loan only to women. That is not because there aren’t men in need of money and with great ideas for businesses, but because I want to empower women. And because I have an interest in arts and crafting, I look for entrepreneurs who are doing such things as weaving, painting and ceramics. These business owners may be keeping certain art forms alive; I want to support their efforts.
