I loan because:
This brings money directly to the people that need it. It helps people AND allows them to keep their self-respect because it is a loan not charity. When I was a PCV in India I learned 2 things. One, the money that governments send to other government rarely makes it down to the people that really need it. And two, you don't win friends with foreign aid. It makes the acceptor feel dependent and that grows into resentment. This program bypasses those problems.
