I loan because:
My father gave my sister and me gift certificates to Kiva in Christmas of 2007 (I was 16 at the time) and asked us to give back. He wanted so desperately to instill in his children the generosity that his parents instilled in him. He never knew that I already wanted to be just like him, and wanted to help people the way he did. He passed away from complications associated with brain cancer in 2009. He would never want to be connected to any of my donations on Kiva--he believed that giving wasn't from the heart if you gained notoriety for it--but every time I lend, I think of everything he taught me. Always will.
