I loan because:
I have a good life, and all the material things I need. Many other people don't, and this is a practical way to help individuals make their lives better, and each person who helps themself and their family out of poverty makes the world a slightly better place. Kiva lending isn't even really a 'charity' - a loan effectively costs us nothing and makes much better use of any 'spare' money than leaving it sitting in a bank earning 0.01% interest. For real 'charity' I support Wateraid at www.wateraid.org - helping people who don't even have the absolute basics of clean water and safe sanitation.
