Bio:
Michael is a native of Toronto, Canada, and worked most recently as a service agent for the Canada Revenue Agency (the Canadian equivalent to the USA's beloved Internal Revenue Service). Prior to this he lived in Kenya while interning with the United Nations Environmental Programme in Nairobi, in their Ecosystem Services Economics unit. His Masters research was on a community agroforestry project located in Kenya's semi-arid Eastern District. Like any self-respecting graduate of a literature programme, he has planted trees in northern Canada; genuflected in the service industry; abandoned long-denied and well-hidden ambitions of writing the next great Canadian novel (revolving around existential questions that arise from chopping wood in the winter snows); and argued vigorously with strangers over matters of which he is entirely ignorant. He is looking forward to living in Togo, and visiting the region, particularly Nigeria, where he has a very large offshore banking account. Michael speaks English and French well enough to quote the Income Tax Act to the average citizen without scaring them too much. He also used to speak Swahili well enough to make East Africans think he was a kind but (typically) strange foreigner with a serious speech impediment.
